Artist: WIlliam Hooker & David FirstTitle: Illustrations
Illustrations was recorded at Rhythm in the Kitchen, a festival which took place at the Church For All Nations (NYC) in June 2013. Every few years afterwards when Hooker and First would run into each other, talk would inevitably turn to that night and the idea of releasing the recording of it to the public. Meeting at a studio session in July of this year, even after all they’d each done in the dozen years since, they still found themselves recalling with special fondness this one particular show. The decision was made to finally do it—to put it out there for others to hear.
It’s a recording with humble origins—First captured it simply by laying his phone down right before they started and hitting the red button. But thankfully he did—that last minute decision transformed an otherwise ephemeral event into a whirlwind of inspired communication for all to savor.
